I have been busy trying out new ideas for our KellyBronze turkeys and the possibilities certainly are endless: I have made sumptuous pies, ballotines, tasty flans, curries and even a turkey wellington with mushroom and shallot duxelles! All of which taste superb, as the deep flavour, fine succulence and punchy meaty gaminess, truly adds depth to any dish.
This always makes me wonder why turkey is viewed as ‘just for Christmas’, because it is such a tasty and versatile meat, and far superior to the standard supermarket bought chicken. That said, buying a whole bird and a premium product such as KellyBronze is expensive, and not something we can necessarily afford to do weekly or even monthly.
So why did turkey become something we only eat at Christmas?
There are several theories why as a nation we don’t eat turkey all year round and it has been identified that a lot of people only associate turkey with Christmas. Unfortunately, turkey is not well marketed by supermarkets, butchers or turkey producers the rest of the year. When we think of turkey, we think of a big roasted bird, not a meat that can be used as a standard cooking staple, like chicken! Did you know that turkey can be used to make pies, sausages, flans and quiches, curries, stir frys and chinese dishes or even just eaten as a grilled steak?! It also has some fantastic health benefits, due to it being high in protein and low in fat. This makes it a healthier option to chicken, and a super choice for individuals looking a healthier alternative or trying to reduce their fat intake.
Making turkey more readily available and putting it ‘on the map’ is something that we as turkey producers need to change, and at Dryden Turkeys, we are looking at ways to make our turkey more affordable and available all year round. We are also putting together lots of lovely recipes to showcase how our turkey can be used.

Turkey Mince, £6.00:
Available in 500g packs, our turkey mince is made of the finest KellyBronze turkey, reared on our farm. Our delicious turkey mince is made from 100% lean KellyBronze breast and thigh meat. Turkey Mince is lower in fat and cholesterol, and is a delicious healthy alternative to other ground meats, perfect for any dishes, including pies, bolognaise, meatloaf and of course burgers!
Turkey Legs, £6.50:
Available in packs of 2. Our turkey legs are 100% KellyBronze, and absolutely delicious. They are very versatile, and can be roasted, cooked and stripped for use in other dishes or slow roasted and pulled, or braised and cooked in the crock pot!
Turkey Wings, £6.50:
Available in packs of 4. Our turkey wings are 100% KellyBronze. Always highly sought after at Christmas, they often sell out extremely quickly. Smother them in your favourite seasoning, whether you like them mild or spicey, and pop them in the oven. They crisp up beautifully, and make a wonderful juicy, tasty (and sometimes messy) treat!
Breast Roasts, £26.50:
Available in sizes 1kg to 1.5kg. Our breast roasts are 100% pure succulent KellyBronze breast meat and are oven ready. They come complete with cooking instructions and a meat thermometer.
We also keep a small selection of whole birds and crowns each Christmas for sale during the year.
