Lamb Home reared, slow matured, and pasture fed for extra flavour

We currently have a flock of 20 ewes at Murton Moor Farm. Judith has always had a passion for rearing sheep and she first introduced a flock to the farm in 2013.

Our flock of Suffolk ewes are crossed with a hardy moor breed. The Suffolk is a British breed of domestic sheep, and originated in the late 18th Century, and was bred for it high quality meat. They are large sheep and are identified by their black face and black legs. Judith chose this breed of sheep as they are friendly and easy to work with, are high milk producers and produce a good large framed lamb.

Our flock is kept very naturally. They live outside 50 weeks of the year and graze various fields around the farm and in the locality. They have a natural diet of grass and other plants in the pasture, and are substituted with home grown haylage during the winter months, and our own grown oats.

Lambing normally starts in March, and 2 weeks prior to this, we bring our ewes inside to provide them with a safe environment to lamb, and for easy husbandry during the labour and delivery process. Within 24 hours of giving birth, our sheep and their lambs are back in the field (weather permitting), to ensure that they benefit from the sweet spring grass, which enables the ewes to produce large quantities of milk for their lambs.

We let our lambs mature slowly on a natural diet of grass and they are ready around late summer, early autumn for purchase.

Our Lamb Boxes

We started selling lamb boxes in 2020, offering them as either a half or whole lamb. Selling our lamb from the farm gate allows us to control what happens to our lamb and ensure that the highest of welfare standards are adhered too.  We use a local reputable butcher to prepare our lambs, minimising travel time and stress, and the meat is then packaged at home on the farm by us.

An average half lamb box weighs 9kg, and comprises of the following cuts: 1 x full leg of lamb, 2 x Victoria boneless shoulder roasting joints, 7 x cutlets, 5 x T-bone chops, 4 x leg steaks and 2 x packs of mince. Liver and kidney is also included if required. Your lamb will be beautifully presented in a box, fully labelled and all cuts are vacuum packed to promote freshness, increasing the shelf life of the meat and improving tenderness.

For further information or to place and order please call or text Judith on 07747 150417 or email: judith@drydenfarms.co.uk who will happily answer any questions you have.

We look forward to welcoming you to our farm to collect your Dryden Lamb!

We vacuum pack our meat as it helps it stay fresher for longer and improves tenderness. Vacuum packing can also extend the fridge life of meats, and work as a barrier against freezer burn.
We always recommend that you freeze any cuts of lamb that you are not planning to use straight away on the day of purchase.
You can pay for your lamb by BACs or cash on collection. Please contact us for account details should you wish to pay by BACs.

We do not offer this service at present; however, we are able to offer a drop of service to our local customers in Murton.
